With a reputation earned, not inherited, our company has been built and grown by carefully caring for the needs of the community before, during, and after losing a loved one. Family owned and operated, founder Spencer A. Skorupski knew this was his calling in life after attending the funeral of his grandfather at the age of 12. He became the youngest funeral home owner in the State of Michigan at age 22 when Skorupski’s original Bay County location was opened on March 1, 2013. Together with Mara Shorkey, Julie VanTol, and the dedicated team of Skorupski’s, in January of 2019, the company grew to include the addition of the former Reitz-Herzberg Funeral Home in Saginaw Twp. Spencer and his wife Chelsea, along with Mara and Julie, expanded the firm’s original Bay County location in March of 2020 by relocating four driveways south to 821 N. Pine Rd., after tremendous growth in their first seven years. This state-of-the-art building was custom-designed by the Skorupski Team, with the professional assistance of Beagle Construction. Featuring a much needed 5,000 more square to meet the needs of the community. Complete with additional and closer parking, along with a safer back lawn for the hosting of our many community events, our new Bay County location is the most up-to-date funeral facility east of the Mississippi River.
